Kings of Rio HW Grand Prix in the books & Super Fight between Zola and Aoki

What an amazing weekend for fights. The super fight between Zola (11-0) and Aoki (7-0) did not disappoint. This fight was a battle both as a stand up war and a great ground battle. Both fighters came out strong and Aoki tried to take down Zola early. Zola resisted and returned fire with some shots to the body and face. Even though Zola was stuffing takedowns, Aoki was winning the war with the judges. It was back and forth for the entire 5 rounds and at the end it was Aoki's hand that was raised as the new 135 pound champion of Kings of Rio. Congratulations to Aoki in defeating one of the best champions around! When asked about the superfight, Theon Greyjoy had this to say, "This was one of the best fights I've seen. Two deadly assassins just went to war and no one should be disappointed in the result. Both fighters left it all out on the mat. I can't wait for the rematch."

Another champion, David Brown was awarded $25,000 for winning the Kings of Rio HW Grand Prix on Saturday night as well. His opponent Paulo Infamous put on a hell of a show and both warriors battled two, ten minute rounds. This fight also went the distance and Brown won by unanimous decision. No love loss for Paulo Infamous as well, he is awarded a year's supply of Syndicate Drugs supplements for his efforts. Infamous is a tank. He was cut early and then later in the fight got rocked and still battled to the end.

There is no doubt that Kings of Rio has some of the best fighters in the world!

Kings of Rio 29 in the books!

Last Saturday was a great night for fights in Rio de Janeiro at the Flamengo Arena. Fans were on the edge of their seats to watch the highly amped 155 pound title fight. What a great night of fights!

In one such bout Denton Jackson (4-2) took on Rescue Toaster (3-0). Rescue Toaster came into this fight undefeated and with a lot of confidence. That confidence was quickly broken when with only 5 seconds into the first round Denton Jackson landed a heavy right and floored Toaster. The ref had to dive in to save the fallen. Denton Jackson brings his record to 5-2 with that victory.

Another great bout was Jorge Leben versus Rodrigo Rios. Rodrigo lookslike he's back to his old self as early in the first round Rios caught Leben with a stiff jab rocking Leben. It didn't take long before Rios finished the job with a devastating head kick after 1:19 in the first round. With that victory Rios moves to 7-3 in the 155 pound division.

The main event boasted two 8-2 fighters in the 155 pound division. The current title holder, Kayaki Chonin, set to defend his belt against the ever-dangerous Jorge Padilha. Chonin came out screaming and began to assault Padilha from the get go. The onslaught was just too much for Padilha and he was finally struck with an uppercut that toppled the combatant. "I don't think anyone expected this fight to end so quickly. No one could have foretold that!" Screamed owner Theon Greyjoy as Padilha hit the canvas. Kayaki Chonin retains his belt and moves to 9-2 and 6th in his weight class in the world.

Kings of Rio 25 in the book!

Kings of Rio 25 is in the books! It was a night full of great fights and the grand finale would be for the 185 lb. title. There were some key victories starting with Jamal Jones taking out Heinrich Dieter with a rear naked choke. Jones moves to 5-0 in the 265 pound division. Jorge Padilha picks up another victory at 155 defeating the once undefeated Alexander Wilson. It looks like Padilha is in check for a run at the 155 pound title and moves to 8-2.

To cap off the night Ronaldo Ferreira (6-0) set out to defend his belt against Antonio Galvao. Ferreira wasted no time and caught Galvoa early with a left hook. That single shot sent Galvao crumbling to the mat. Congratulations to the still undefeated Ronaldo Ferreira, the 185 pound Kings of Rio Title Holder!!! Ferreira moves to 21st in the world p4p and 6th p4p in his division.

IN THE NEWS:
Gianfranco Zola has temporarily moved to London to compete in the CFL's Bantamweight GP $10,000 first prize. Gianfranco Zola is undefeated with a record of 8-0 and is ranked 7th in the Bantaweight Division in the world (mostly due because of lack of competition).

Late Thursday afternoon Theon Greyjoy was interviewed about Zola and the Bantaweight Tournament. "Zola is a monster," said Greyjoy. "We jumped at the chance to let Zola prove to the world that he's the best in the 135 pound division. We are honored to have Zola represent Kings of Rio and look forward to watching the fights."

July 4th Event a hit!!!

This past Saturday at the Flamengo Arena an amazing show took place under a full house and even broke the record for best event rating in the world. Six title fights and 4 great undercards were presented to a frenzied crowd.

The first title fight was Pasha Dasari (5-1) vs. Dameon Machida (8-2). Right from the beginning Dasari took it to the ground and attempted submission after submission until he finally got Machida with a quick armbar with 1 minute left in the first round. Congratulations to Dasari for gaining the 145 pound title. Pasha Dasari moves to the #1 pound for pound fighter in the world at 145 pounds.

The second title fight was between Kayaki Chonin (7-2) and the favored Jorge Padilha (7-1). This one was over before it started as Chonin cut Padilha with a kick and then finished him off with strikes at 13 seconds in the first round. Chonin moves to the 4th position in the world at the lightweight division.

The 170 pound title fight was Ricardo Sabrol (7-1) vs. Victor Gregorivich (6-1). This may have been the most competitive fight of the night between two great ground fighters. The first round was completely fought on the ground as both fighters struggled for position and a finishing submission. However, in the second, Sabrol connected with a great 3 punch combo and rocked Gregorivich. Sabrol took advantage of the situation in a flash and finished off Gregorivich with a guillotine choke 1:50 into the 2nd Round. What a great victory for Ricardo Sabrol and he moves to the 2nd pound for pound fighter in the welterweight division and #10 pound for pound in the world!

The next title fight was Ronaldo Ferreira (4-0) vs. Lucian Rodrigues (6-1). This one was quick as Ferreira came out of his corner swinging and rocked Rodrigues early with a nice right hand. Ferreira finished off Rodrigues with nasty ground and pound and is now the 6th best pound per pound fighter in Brazil. Congrats to Ferreira for an amazing victory.

The 265 + title bout was between Gavilian Barrera vs. Bob Cares. This fight was a quick one as Barrerra took it to the ground and choked out Bob Cares with a guillotine. Congrats to Barrera who moves to the 11th best fighter in the super heavy weight division in the world.

The main event (of all the main events ;) ) featured Arthur Dayne (6-1) vs. Nicolas Kapers (7-0). This was a much anticipated bout by most of the world. Kapers started off strong with multiple submission attempts in the first round and most thought it was going to be over quickly. However, the mighty Dayne defended well and eventually caught Kapers with a ridiculous uppercut that damaged Kapers and sent his legs into wobbly noodles. The bell saved Kapers but early in the second round Dayne continued the onslaught and Kapers tapped out under the threat of strikes to give Dayne the heavy weight title! Congratulations to Dayne for his hard fought victory. Dayne moves to the #8 position pound per pound in the world!
Congratulations to all fighters and thank you for a great night of fights!
